WELD COUNTY, CO—The county program providing free explosive-gas monitors to Weld County residents will come to a conclusion on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. The program, which was initiated on August 24th by the Weld County Board of Commissioners following the tragic home explosion in Firestone earlier this year, has provided more than 850 monitors to residents concerned about possible explosive gasses in their homes.

“We are glad that financially, as a county, we were able to provide this program to our residents,” said Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, coordinator for the Planning Department. “I would encourage residents who haven’t already taken advantage of this program and who are concerned about explosive gasses to please contact our Planning Department to make sure their name is on the list to receive a monitor.”

The end date for the program will follow four scheduled give-away events throughout the county, in addition to residents being able to contact the Planning Department in Greeley directly for a monitor.

“We feel confident that residents concerned about explosive gasses have likely already picked up a monitor. Those who haven’t yet can still utilize the county program for a few more weeks,” said Commissioner Chair Julie Cozad.

Give-away events are scheduled for Hudson, Milliken, Eaton and Erie. Residents will be able to pick up monitors at the Planning Department in Greeley beginning next week as well. Planning staff are encouraging residents to call the Planning Department first to ensure staff has monitors on hand as past supplies have been exhausted quickly. If monitors are not on hand, the resident’s name and contact information will be taken to ensure they will receive a monitor following the final order placement. To put your name on that list, residents are asked to email Weld County Oil and Gas Liaison Troy Swain at <>  or call 970-400-3548. Proof of county residency, such as a utility bill, property tax statement or driver’s license will be required in order to obtain a monitor.

To date, the county has spent $58,280 of general fund money on the program.
